The History of Wondoan Kennels
and John & Lyn Hales

WONDOAN KENNELS began in 1950 when Lyn's mother purchased the Blue Roan Cocker Spaniel bitch "Forrest Susanne" for Lyn's fifth birthday and went on to exhibiting and breeding for about 8 years.
Lyn began exhibiting in handler classes and in 1963 purchased the Great Dane "Cliffdane Red Raider" who she handled through to his Aust. Champion title in 1967. During this time another Great Dane handler came upon the scene with his dog who was to become "Aust. Ch. Collawey Bonzo." These two handlers met at Newcastle showgrounds in New South Wales in September of 1967 and Married in February of 1968 ( I always say Lyn only Married me to get a good Dane ) and shortly after Re Established WONDOAN KENNELS. Breeding and or Exhibiting with success Danes, Pomeranians, English Pointers, and Keeshonden.

We have two Adult children Tara born in 1970 and Adam born in 1973

WONDOAN ITALIANS did not come about in the usual [ I seen It, I Loved It, I Want It, I Must Have It ] but Tara who at five decided she wanted a show dog of her own, and decided that a "Yorkie" was it, after trying to contact the top breeder of Yorkies in this country and purchasing all the accessories a Yorkie requires, Tara Happened on a photograph of three Iggies on the front of one of the dog magazines and Declared THATS WHAT I WANT! So we approached the Wrights' of SHEUNG ITALIANS who were good enough to allow us to have SHEUNG SUSANNA for Tara.
Needless to say at her first outing Tara got stage fright,(or is that ring fright) and John had to take what he felt was a (rat on a string ) into the ring where she preformed with credibility, Attaining her Aust. Championship winning several Reserve in Groups ( Group 2nd's) along the way, and several Best in Groups ( Group 1sts) after. By this time John had become attached to her (read obsessed by her) and of course she should have a litter! So Graham and Carolyn Wright ( Sheung) who were no longer in I Gs. together with several all breeds Judges were approached for advise on what dog to use. They all came up with the same answer ( ther's a nice dog in Western Australia you should use) So in 1978 we used the Multi BIS Aust Champion LYNKIRK ULISSE who together with Suzanna formed the base from which Wondoan IG's grew to the stage where our breeding has been represented in all States and Territories in Australia and we have
exported dogs overseas to India, Singapore, Norway, Sweden, U.S.A. mainland, New Zealand, Hong Kong and Hawaii

Tara has gotten rid of that stage fright and has her own " TARDOAN " Prefix Having bred a couple of I G litters with some success in the ring, along with Breeding and exhibiting Chinese Cresteds with success.
